Author Profile
Travis Rosser is one of the co-founders of the software company, Kajabi. Kajabi helps people sell their knowledge in the form of courses to others who may be interested in learning how those people have been successful. Since its launch in 2010, Kajabi has helped entrepreneurs earn more than $600 million in sales. Kajabi itself brings in more than $15 million annually.
Travis is more than just an entrepreneur, however. He also shares his personal story and his relationship with fear and failure to many other people around the world to help and inspire them to move forward and not become paralyzed. He currently lives in Southern California with his wife and family. You, Inc. is his first book.
Highlights
Travis’ vulnerability and his way of making things seem so simple are very big highlights in the book. His writing and his thoughts are easy to follow, and his steps are very simple as well. I like the way he divides the content in the book into different sections that are easy to follow: 1. How we have a business inside of us already, 2. How we can find that business and where to look, 3. How we can bring that business into existence and start making money.
If you’ve wanted to start a business online but don’t know where to look, this book does a great job at providing many different examples of businesses you can start and things you can teach. Not only that, but it also does a good job at showing you how to consider every aspect of your life to find things that you already know and are good at and take advantage of them to find which kind of business will work well for you.
Personal Impact
I’ve always been wanting to find a way to make money online to be able to fund my travels and work from anywhere. For a long time, I have wanted to create a course to teach people how to start their own service-based company like me and how they can achieve results. I knew in my mind that I wanted to do it, but I didn’t know the right way for me to go about doing it. This book showed me that I have the business in me, I just need to get it out.
I am going to keep this book on hand and next to me frequently, because moving forward this is what I want to do. I have the dream of teaching others how to start their own businesses and how to overcome their fears, especially of failure, and all of that is knowledge-based. I love it, because I can do that kind of work from anywhere and with anyone, so this book really got me motivated and confirmed that I’m moving in the right direction.
Actionable Goal
I am going to create a timeline and a map of how I want to structure and present my course on how to start a service-based business, so that I can know what I need to do to launch it by the end of this year. I have to break down the categories and all the content that I will need, so I’m going to create my game-plan and map everything out from beginning until launch.
Verdict
I wish this book went a little more in depth with a step-by-step guide of how to do things, but obviously there would be much more information and time needed to cover everything. This book does a good job at conveying the message and teaching the general principles, and I hope he publishes more that will showcase more of the actionable steps. Besides the desire for more information, I thought this book was very well-written and provided value. For anybody who is even remotely interested in starting a business sometime in the future, this is a good way to find the business that is already inside of you. I give it 8/10.
